Working abroad – do you really want to do it?

Before you decide to go, think about whether you work abroad is really what you want. Consider all the pros and cons, it can’t be a hasty decision. We often take it because we cannot find employment in the country. After another failed interview, we want to drop everything and leave.

But are we sure that things will go easier abroad? Remember that there, for employers, we will be someone from outside the country. You will have to try twice as much to prove that you are worth hiring over a native of this country.

Before you leave, think about all the pros and cons. To start over, you need to be carefully prepared. Driving blind, lack of financial resources – all this can make it much more difficult for us to achieve our goal.

Working abroad has advantages and disadvantages that are certainly worth taking into account attention.

Working abroad – good and bad

It is not often that someone decides to leave the country overnight. The trip is preceded by a thorough analysis of all pros and cons.

What can leave us for?

First of all, going abroad can be very developing. We get to know a new culture from scratch, we learn to live in it, we are not only a tourist. We get to know local people, we can really feel the atmosphere of such a place. We certainly won’t be able to do it on a two-week vacation. So if we are particularly interested in a country, we want to learn more about it, living there is certainly the best opportunity to do so.

By working abroad, we will certainly learn the language better, even if we do we use it very well every day. We will get to know local phrases, popular idioms, learn the everyday language and, above all, use it will be more natural for us. We will break down barriers if they exist.

Going abroad is also a blank page. If we have a need to change our lives, to detach ourselves from everything, the trip will certainly make it easier for us. We will get to a completely new environment, we will meet completely different people, we will be able to shape everything ourselves, regardless of anyone.

Staying and working abroad can increase our sense of self values. If we are able to work and live in a foreign country, what would we not be able to deal with? Besides, to get a job, we have to prove ourselves. After all, your employer might have hired a resident of that country, and he decided to get you, the person who just arrived.

Why should you think it over?

Remember that when you decide to leave, you often leave your relatives behind in your country. If the longing is unbearable for you, it will be difficult for you to acclimate to your new place. It may happen that you will be completely alone for some time – without friends, with loved ones many kilometers away from you. Are you able to live this way?

It is also worth considering a trip if you do not know the language of a given country. It is difficult to achieve success without speaking a foreign language. So if you are not just interested in earning, you need to consider whether you can handle it. Remember that apart from your work, you probably have a lot of official matters as well, and settling them without knowing the language is virtually impossible.

Also, consider if you are ready to start from scratch. You will come to another country with a blank card. You will have to build not only your position but also acquaintances, a network of contacts, the entire private and professional space. However, if you come back to Poland after a few years, here you will be building everything from scratch. Are you ready for this?

You will certainly not feel at home at first. If you have lived in another country all your life, you are used to a different lifestyle. Each culture is different from each other and it will certainly be a long time before you get to know it enough to feel at home.

What is worth remembering?

In fact, if you are motivated to make a career, you can do it in any country, including Poland. You have to devote the same amount of energy to work and invest in yourself in each of these places. Probably if you have a problem with motivation and commitment in Poland, it will not change immediately after crossing the border.

So before you go, think carefully about what you need and expect from life, and then think about whether the trip is necessary for all this. Perhaps when you find a goal, you find it feasible everywhere.

Nothing comes by itself and you have to earn success or a good salary everywhere. If the enormity of work and obligations scares you, don’t be under the delusion that it will be different and simpler abroad.

Remember that if you leave unhappy, you will most likely also be unhappy when you cross the border. The reasons should be sought deeper than where you live.

Working abroad is not a simple decision. So let us make sure that it is not taken lightly and that we do not regret anything. Often, after analyzing the good and bad sides, it may turn out that everything looks completely different than we imagined.
